JUST ANOTHER HEARTBREAK GOING BY

Well I thought that my first sweetheart

Was the sweetest girl I met

I thought that she would be my own

That I'd have no regret.

But suddenly she changed her plans

And left me high and dry.
She was just another heartbreak going by.

And then I met the cutest blonde

That I thought was the one

I courted her with all  my heart

I thought my job was done.

But when I popped the question

I got a big surprise

She was just another heartbreak going by.

It's been the same old story

I've had my hopes built high

Then they would tumble to the ground

As each love walked on by.

So when I see another come

I look at her and cry

You're just another heartbreak going by.

JUST CALL HER SUE

Well I had my share of sweethearts

More than I would care to tell

They would send me up to heaven

Then they'd make me feel like...

Well, Anyhow thru all my roamin'

I've found a friend called Sue

She's just a gal but the nicest pal

Us poor boys ever knew.

Chorus

Just call her Sue

Just call her Sue

She don't play around with cupid's darts

She's just a friend that's true

Just call her Sue

Just call her Sue

She don't make you think of diamond rings

She don't mention wedding bells

She don't put you on the mountain top

Then make you feel like...

Well, I just think that she's the nicest girl

In my book she's just fine

If her kind's a dime a dozen

Then I'll start saving dimes.

Chorus

THE OLD-TIME RELIGION  - (Revised)

I was wandering down the highway

Just to pass the time away

In a famous western city

In the twilight dim and gray.

From a cottage by the window

Notes of sweetest music rang

Gospel singers were broadcasting

And this is what they sang -

Chorus

"Tis the old time religion

Tis the old time religion

Tis the old time religion

And it's good enough for me"

Just inside a cottage window

Seated by a radio

I saw an aged brother

On his face the lines of woe

Then he bowed his head in reverence

As the singers sang again

'Twas the second sweet old stanza

And this is how it ran

Chorus

"It makes me love everybody

It makes me love everybody

It makes me love everybody

It's good enough for me"

I had almost lost the beauty

Of that old camp-meeting song

That our Father and our Mother

Sang in days now past and gone

But at last I have regained it

In my heart forevermore

And some day I hope to sing it

On that happy golden shore

Chorus

"It will take us all to heaven

It will take us all to heaven

It will take us all to heaven

It's good enough for me"

I DON'T FLY OFF THE HANDLE ANYMORE

Once some Israelites were cutting wood near Jordan

They had planned to build a house to worship God.

But one Israelite soon fell into misfortune

When his axe-head fell into the river sod.

So he cried unto Elisha,  "Alas, Master"

As he pointed where the blade had fallen in.

And Elisha with the power of Almighty

Cast a stick in thither and the iron did swim.

Now my life was once just like that fallen axe-head

I would loose my grip and wildly fly about.

I had sunk beneath the waves in Satan's mud bed

Though I tried to free myself from fear and doubt.

But the Lord above had seen where I was lying

His hand reached down and lifted me above.

Now in His will I'm constantly abiding

For He bound me to His own with bands of love.

Chorus

Oh, I don't fly off the handle anymore

Since the blood of Jesus sanctifes my soul.

Since he fixed my spirit

And he wedged the handle tight

Oh, I don't fly off the handle anymore.

If your life is full of worry and frustration

And your tempers got you under its control,

Has your progress been of constant repetition

Up one day then back again in Satan's hold?

Let Him wedge it tight 'till it can take the swing

Let Him use you to cut down the barrier sin made

With His hand upon your life with me you'll sing -

Chorus

Words of the song as it is sung are slightly different from the way it was written

PARSON BILL

Long ago in old Kentucky

Lived a man called Parson Bill

And in faithfulness he pastored

At his church upon the hill

He would tell them of the Savior

How he paid the awful cost

But he also told of judgment

That would come upon the lost.

Now a gambler said I’ll take

That parson down a peg or two

I’ll show him that to preach

Against our gambling just won’t do

But he came rolling down the mountain

Rolling down the mountain

Rolling down the mountain mighty wise

Oh, He placed his stakes on winning

But the parson showed that sinning

Couldn’t stand before the mighty Word of God.

Now a moonshiner got angry

At the way Bill spoke on drink

And he said, “I’ll go on up

And make that parson stop and think.”

(This verse was originally written as :

"At the way Bill spoke on beer.

And he said, I'll go on up

And run that parson out of here")

But he came rolling down the mountain

Rolling down the mountain

Rolling down the mountain mighty wise

Oh, He thought he’d be a winner,

But he found out that a sinner

Couldn’t stand before the mighty Word of God.

PARSON BILL

DEAR LORD DON’T LET GO

When my soul is dark with grief

Give my heart thy blessed peace

And, Dear Lord, don’t let go of my hand.

When my friends have passed me by

In my loneliness I cry

Oh, Dear Lord, don’t let go of my hand.

Chorus

Oh, Dear Lord don’t let go of my hand

I‘ll be true just as long as I can

And when I stumble and fall

Oh, Dear God

Please hear my call

And, Dear Lord, don’t let go of my hand

When trials come on every hand

And I cannot understand

Oh, Dear Lord, don’t let go of my hand.

When it comes my time to die

And I hear my loved ones cry

Then, Dear Lord, don’t let go of my hand.
